holiday gifts for coffee lovers

Seasons greetings, fellow coffee enthusiasts!

Do you have a coffee lover in your life that you need holiday gift for? Are you a coffee lover and want to get a mere coffee appreciator in your family something that will enhance their coffee experience? Are you a coffee lover and want to ensure that you get a great coffee gift by buying a little something for yourself?

Well, fret not! Yours truly has an in with Old Saint Nick and I happen to know for a fact that he’s a big time coffee enthusiast. So he and I put our heads together and came up with this: the 2014 Official Table in the Corner of the Cafe Top Ten Holiday Gifts for Coffee Lovers List!

(Unfortunately, we couldn’t come up with a more concise title.)

Talk about a gift that keeps on giving—coffee, fresh to your loved one’s doorstep month after month after month for an entire year.

Why choose just one coffee to gift to your loved one when you can sign them up for a coffee subscription, which will provide them with anywhere from one to four different offerings from roasters all over the country for a whole twelve months? That’s anywhere from 12-48 different coffees that they can try out!

I wrote a piece a while back in which I rounded up some of the best coffee subscription services around. Check that out to see which company best suits your loved one’s lifestyle.

TheWorldAtlasofCoffee4_largeThe book that really took the coffee world by storm in 2014 was world-renown coffee personality James Hoffmann’s The World Atlas of Coffee.

Taking the reader on a global tour of coffee-growing countries, The World Atlas of Coffee presents the bean in full-color photographs and concise, informative text. It shows the origins of coffee — where it is grown, the people who grow it; and the cultures in which coffee is a way of life — and the world of consumption — processing, grades, the consumer and the modern culture of coffee.

Organized by continent and then further by country or region, The World Atlas of Coffee presents the brew in color spreads packed with information.

Acaia-e1385785293363Acaia boasts itself as “the only coffee scale you’ll ever need.”

With its sleek and modern minimalist design, incredible accuracy up to one tenth of a gram, built-in timer that syncs to your mobile device to track bloom, pour, and infusion time, automated auto-off customization, and rechargeable USB power supply, their claim is probably accurate!

CaptureIf there’s only one movie that could be considered “mandatory viewing” for people interested in coffee, it’s 2014’s A Film About Coffee.

A Film About Coffee is a love letter to, and meditation on, specialty coffee. It examines what it takes, and what it means, for coffee to be defined as “specialty.” The film whisks audiences on a trip around the world, from farms in Honduras and Rwanda to coffee shops in Tokyo, Portland, Seattle, San Francisco and New York. Through the eyes and experiences of farmers and baristas, the film offers a unique overview of all the elements—the processes, preferences and preparations; traditions old and new—that come together to create the best cups. This is a film that bridges gaps both intellectual and geographical, evoking flavor and pleasure, and providing both as well.

You can currently purchase and stream the movie in its entirety on Vimeo; unfortunately, though, you can’t purchase the movie and send it to somebody as a gift. That shouldn’t stop you from inviting all your coffee-loving friends and family over for a screening party!

lenezducafe1What do you get for the coffee lover who has all the toys and gadgets? Why not give them the gift that keeps on giving—an aroma training kit.

The Le Nez Du Café collection includes the most typical aromas found in the world’s top coffees. Aromas and aroma identification are essential to the quality of a product; it is important to be able to recognize them in order to master tasting.

This kit will enable you to fully appreciate coffee and describe it with ease.

Smell each of the aromas in the collection carefully, one by one. The more often you use them, the more acute your sense of smell will become and the easier you will assimilate both the scents in coffee (perceived through the nose) and its aromas (sensed on the palate).

This training will enable you to provide a clear description of what you are experiencing
